Koniamman Temple in Coimbatore

1. In the olden days for every Shiva Temple there would be a guarding deity in its northern boundry. According to legendry Arulmigu Koniamman Temple is supposed to be this style, on the northern side of Kottai Easwaran Temple. The History of the temple and deity dates back to 13th century AD.
2. The temple is situated in the heart of the city, was built by a leader of a small cult known as 'IRULAS' six hundred years ago. The small village was also named as 'Covanpudur' after the leader of this group, whose name was 'Covan'.
3. This ancient temple was situated in the north of Coimbatore near Sanganoor Stream. Later when there was a fear of Chera invasion, the illangosar tribe which was ruling at that time built a new fort and to guard this fort, they built a temple and named the deity as Koniamman.
4. After the tribes ruling came to an end, the temple also had a sluggish period, realising the importance of this temple, during the Mysore Dynasty one of its kings renovated the temple and conservated the Devi Koniamman in the style of 'Mahishasuramardhini'.

Aiyappan Temple, Sidhapudur :

1. This temple is just 1km from the Gandhipuram Bus Stand and nearer to the new Omni bus stand. The temple is managed by Aiyappa Seva Samithi.
2. Moolavar Aiyappaswami was installed by Kerala Aachara Thanthrik method.
3. Murugan, Vinayagar, Guruvayurappan sannathis are also there. During the months of Karthigai to Thai, large number of devotees starts from here to Sabarimala with their Irumudi.
4. Sree Ayyappa Temple situated is in Sree Ayyappa road, Sidhapudur, Coimbatore. The temple was built in 1976 by the Trust called Sri Dharma Sastha Baktha Jana Sabha.
5. The trust wanted to build an Ayyappa temple in Coimbatore similar to that of the one in Sabarimala. And their wish was realised.
6. The poojas and other religious rituals are observed similar to the fashion in Sabarimala. The temple is open from 5.00 AM to 9.00 PM
Coimbatore Bannari Amman Temple
1. This temple is located in Bannari (83 km from Coimbatore and 10 km from Bhavanisagar), nearer to Sathyamankalam (also known as Sakthi), Erode District, Tamilnadu state of India. This temple is famous for the Gundam irrangum vizhla.
2. People of past had witnessed the wonderful sight of tigers and cows quenching their thirst at the same spot of the river.
3. Cowherds used to drive the cattle to the fields jeer for grazing. The cows fed on the grass found in plenty here. These cows were driven back to the stables at dusk.
4. The cowherds used to extract milk form the udder of each cow and hand over the collected Milk to the owners of the cows.
5. One particular cow did not allow the cowherd to get milk, nor did it allow its calf to go near it.

Vasavi Kannikaparameswari Amman Temple

1. This temple is located in the Vysial Street. This is a temple of more than hundred years. Now it is renovated. The temple is open from 6 am to 9 Pm. During Navarathri festival, the god is decorated differently on different days and also taken on procession. Puja are conducted regularly.

Bathra Kali Amman Koil (Thekkampatti)
This is one of the oldest Temples in Coimbatore. It is on the Banks of the Bhavani River. The goddess name is "Vanabhadra Kaliamman". This temple attracts large crowds and also it is a very good picnic spot. It is very famous in pournami days.thousnds of devotees gathering during the days.

Murugan Temple, Maruthamalai

1. Marudhamalai is a small natural hill lying to the west of Coimbatore. More than 800 years old, the presiding deity is Lord Subramaniaswamy. The temple dedicated to Lord Murugan is at a height of 600 feet from the foot of the hill.
2. The Flight of steps is interspread with attractive mandapams. Though shorn of all sculptural and architectural glories, the hilly background of this temple compensates for their absence and makes it an attractive picnic spot even from the point of view of an holiday-maker.
3. The hoary past of the temple can be traced in such ancient works as Sage Kachiappar's Perur Puranam. The origin of the temple is rooted in legendary antiquity and dates back to the age of Surapadma, the demon destroyed by Lord Subramanya referred to in Skandapuranam.

Coimbatore Nandhi Temple

1. Asia's largest Nandhi (Bull) is installed at this temple, at Navakarai, 27km south of Coimbatore city on the Palghat main road (NH-47).
2. The Nandhi devar is 10m heigh, 7m wide and 15m long.
Ramabaktha Hanuman:
1. This temple is located about 1 km south of Vinayagar temple, Eachanari, on the pollachi road. Hanuman is sitting in bhajan mood, chanting Ram Ram. Managed by Sri Ramabhaktha Hanuman Dhyana Kendra Trust.
2. A small Pramid is also available for sitting in and meditate. Daily Rama Nama bhajans are conducted. Open from 6 am to 12 noon and 4.30 pm to 8.30 night. Bus Routes - 12, 12A, 12D, 33 (A-E), 47, 71, 73, 84.

Saradambal Temple in Coimbatore

1. The Sharadambal temple in Coimbatore was built in 1979 by the then Peedathipathi of Sharada Matt of Shringeri. The temple enshrines Goddess Sharadhambal. It is believed that the Goddess is very powerful and she grants the wishes of her devotees.
2. The temple has small shrines for Lord Ganesha, Lord Muruga and Guru Adi Shankarar. Navarathri is the main festival that is celebrated with pomp and grandeur. All nine days the temple hosts 'kolu' and conducts special poojas and celebrations like Bhajans and dances.

Coimbatore Shiva Temples

Patteeswarar Temple, Perur

1. Kovai was once ruled by the Irula chieftains and was known by the name Kovan patti; Coimbatore, christened by the British was once known as Kovanputtur.
2. In the first century CE, this area was ruled by local chieftains; artifacts from trade carried out by these people with the Romans of that period are housed in local museums in the area.
3. It is believed that the Chola monarch Karikaal Cholan built the sanctum of this temple in around 500 CE, housing the Shivalingam which is the center of Worship today. This temple was visited by the Saivite saint Sundarar in the 9th century.
4. The Cholas of the 10th and 11th centuries made further additions to this temple. In this period, the Cholas also built the Sangameswara temple in the heart of Coimbatore.

Coimbatore Sri Jaganathar Temple

Coimbatore Sri Mahalakshmi Mandir Temple

1. This temple is on the Pollachi road, in Eachanari. It is located to the north of Vinayagar Temple, Eachanari. Sri Maha Durga, Sri Mahalakshmi & Sri Maha Saraswathi are the presiding deities. The temple is managed by Coimbatore Mahalakshmi Mandir Trust from its inception in 2002.
2. North Indian styles of vimans are constructed with modern technology. At the entrance to the temple, Sri Mahavishnu lying on Athiseshan blesses the devotees. Temple is open 6.30 to 12.00 & 17.00 to 20.00 hrs.
3. A Mandir for 'Sri Mahalakshmi' alongwith 'Sri Durga' and 'Sri Saraswathi' on either side, as in Mumbai, in plinth area of about 13,000 Sq.ft. in a spacious one Acre of land near the famous Eachanari Vignesh Temple, Coimbatore is under construction and fast progressing as shown in the photos above.
4. The Trust has already spent more than Forty Lakhs and a further sum of Rs. 60 Lakhs is required. The construction of the Mandir for Sri Mahalkshmi at Eachanari which is nearing completion and coming up fabulously.

Coimbatore Sri Venkatachalapathy Temple

1. Thenthirumalai Sri Venkatachalapathy temple is situated in Karamadai - Sirumugai Road, which is about 30 kms from Coimbatore. This Holy Idol is the replica of the world famous shrine Tirumala, Tirupathy.
2. Like the one in Tirupathy, this Thenthirumalai is located on a hill which is about 1000 feet above Mean Sea Level.
3. The Temple is surrounded by evergreen Mango and Banana plantations. The ecology of the area is maintained with care by retaining the green vegetation on the slopes.
4. The coconut and arecanut trees are like natural boundry. Lord Balaji is in the main Temple. Sri Garudalvar sits facing the lord.
5. Sri Sudarsana Alwar, Sri Yoga Narasimhar, the four vaishnavite savants Sri Ramanujar, Nammalwar, Thirumangai Alwar and Sri Vendanta Desikar are housed.
6. A Vaigunta Dwaram is also built up. At about 150 meters ascending of the garden path there is Sri Anjeneya Statue. After climbing 33 steps we can reach the main Temple which has a 45 foot high Dwajasthambam.

Coimbatore Thandumariamman Temple

1. This temple is located at 2 kms from Coimbatore Railway Station. The temple was built during the period of Tippu Sultan. This temple has got a very unique origin. The story behind it goes on like.
2. Thandumariamman appeared in the dream of a soldier of Tippu Sultan said that she has been living in the forest for a very long time, the following morning that soldier went to the forest in search of the goddess and found her beside a neem tree.
3. Over-joyed by the goddess appearing before him, he showed her to his countrymen and finally the temple was built in that place. Soon the news spread all over and was worshipped by the name Thandumariamman.
4. Bramothsavam is celebrated annually for 13 days, from the first Tuesday of Chithrai month. Temple is open from 6 am to 8 pm.
5. Prayers with ghee lamps on lemon, lit on ragukala of Tuesdays are familiar among ladies. Majority of the buses pass through this temple. Nearest bus stop is uppilipalayam

Coimbatore Vinayagar Temples

Vinayagar Temple Eachanari
1. Lord Vinayagar is the residing deity of Eechanari Temple. The temple is at Pollachi Main Road, Eechanari. The idol that is 6 feet tall with 3 feet breadth was being transited from Madurai to Perur, during which the wheel of the conveyance gave away at Eechanari.
2. Efforts to take the idol to Perur did not help. So it came to stay in Eechanari. The temple was completed on 03.06.77.
3. Lord Vinayaga is the first and formost Hindu deity and he symbolises pranav manthara Ohm the sound which is everlast and everlive at the creation and destruction of this universe.
4. Lord Vinayaga symbolises Ohm Pranav manthara is a presiding deity of this temple, and this temple is situated 10km away from Coimbatore to Pollachi enroute.

Hyderali Tippusultan Dakniahle Sunnath Jamath

1. Hyderali Tippusultan Dakniahle Sunnath Jamath is established in 1789. This is 2 km from Railway station.
2. The 1921 Mabilla Rebellion freedom fighters who fought against the Britishers and sacrified their lives were buried here.
3. It is the main Muslim burial ground for the entire city.
4. Eid-Gah, where in entire city Muslims congregates for the Eid Prayers is also here.

Churches in Coimbatore

Infant Jesus Church, Kovaipudur

1. Kovaipudur Infant Jesus Church is located about 12 kms from Coimbatore. This famous church was very small before 14 years. Only before 10 years, the new church was built. Every day there is service at 6:30am. On every Thursday, there is special service at 11:15am, 4:30 pm, 6:30pm and also special novena.
2. There is adoration and procession on that day. Every year on the second Sunday of January, the feast of Infant Jesus is celebrated in this church. There will be special novena prayers on all Thursdays before the feast. On the feast day, there will be special message, blessing and also procession.
3. Christmas, Easter, Good Friday are the other feasts which are grandly celebrated in this church. Believers tell that there are a lot of miracles happening in this church.

Our Lady of Fatima Church :

1. This is located in Gandhipuram on Dr. Radhakrishnan Road. It is a very old church which was inaugurated in January 1955. 2005 marked as the Golden Jubilee of the parish.
2. Every day there is service at 6:15am and 6:00pm. There are 4 services on Sundays at 6:00am, 7:45am, 10:00am and 5:30pm. The service at 10 am will be in English.
3. There is 24 hour adoration in "Golden Jubilee Golden Jubilee Spiritual and Social Centre", which was constructed marking the Golden Jubilee of Church.
4. Every year feast of Mother Mary is grandly celebrated in the month of May. There will be a big procession of Mother Mary on that day. Christmas, Easter, Good Friday are also celebrated in this church.
5. There are buses to this church for every 5 minutes from Gandhipuram and Ukkadam Bus Stand.

All Souls Church

1. This church was built in 1870. The first, seeds of Christianity for Coimbatore city were sown for all souls Anglican Chapel earlier located in Avinashi Road (where we have Anna Fly Over now.).
2. The church is now located on race course road, 1.5 km from Railway station.

Bethesda International Prayer Centre

CSI Immanuel Church

CSI Immanuel Church is located in the heart of the city in Avinashi Road. The church was constructed in the year 1830 by Rev. Addis. New church building was dedicated in 1996.
