இலவசமாக கிடைப்பதை, "ஓசி'யில் கிடைத்தது
என்று சொல்லும் பழக்கம் நம்மில் உண்டு. இது எப்படி வந்ததென்றால்,
கிழக்கிந்திய கம்பெனியின் ஆட்சியில் இந்தியா இருந்த போது அவர்கள் அனுப்பும்
தபால்களில் O.C.S. (On Company Service) என்ற முத்திரை
குத்தப்பட்டிருக்கும். இந்த முத்திரை குத்திய தபால்கள் ஸ்டாம்ப் ஒட்டாமலே
எங்கும் சென்றதால், ஓசியில் போகிறது என்று சொன்னார்கள். நாளடைவில் சும்மா
கிடைக்கும் எல்லாவற்றுக்கும் "ஓசி'யில் கிடைத்தது என்று சொல்லும் பழக்கம்
வந்துவிட்டது.
In India, people refer to getting things for free as ‘OC’. So, how did this term come about?
While India was under the rule of the East India Company, the letters sent by the company will be stamped ‘OC’.
‘On Company’ service is the abbreviated form of OC. As the posts sent
on behalf of the company were sent without stamps, they were said to be
sent on OC.
As days passed, OC was termed for everything sent for free.
