These loops were incorporated in shirts since the 1960s.

 

They were known as 'locker loops,' or 'fruit loops.' Sometimes, if customers didn't like them, they could take off the loops while purchasing the shirts as well.

This trend was started in the US and then gained popularity elsewhere as well.

 

But since the invention of wardrobes, these loops are nothing but a decoration to shirts.
